Bunk bed, loft bed or bunk with a pull-out: which do you need?
A bunk bed (double decker) stacks two beds for two sleepers. A loft bed raises one bed so the floor underneath is free for a desk, drawers or play. A bunk with a pull-out adds a third bed for sleepovers or guests.
| Type | Sleeps | Good for | Wihardja examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bunk bed (double decker) | 2 | Siblings sharing a room | Tommie, Tate, Lamario, Fredrick |
| Bunk with a bigger bottom bunk | 2 | A parent and child, or a guest room | Jeanie, Joaquina, Fredrick King/Single, Shavon |
| Bunk with a pull-out bed | 3 | Sleepovers and guests | Kayla, Madelon, Joaquina with pull-out |
| Bunk with a storage staircase | 2 | Climbing by steps instead of a ladder, plus storage | Reymond, Roseanne |
| Triple bunk | 3 | Three children in one room | Daisie |
| Loft bed | 1 | A desk, drawers or play space underneath | Kadie, Darina, Gabryelle, Patrisha, Tannen, Timmie |
Designs listed on this page on 26 October 2026. For prices, see each product or our furniture price guide.
Triple bunk beds
The Daisie Teak Triple Bunk Bed sleeps three in one room. It measures 200 cm high, 261 cm wide and 214 cm deep, so measure your floor space first.
Bunk beds with a bigger bottom bunk
On these designs the lower bed is wider than the top one. Jeanie and Joaquina have a super single bottom with a single top. Joaquina also comes with a queen bottom and a super single top, and Fredrick and Shavon with a queen bottom and a single top. Fredrick, Jeferson and Josephyne come with a king bottom and a single top. A queen bunk bed like this suits a parent sleeping below a child, or a guest room.
Bunk beds with pull-out beds
Kayla (single or super single), Madelon and Joaquina come with a pull-out bed under the bottom bunk. The pull-outs fit a mattress of 6 inches or less.
Bunk beds with storage stairs
The Reymond and Roseanne bunk beds have a staircase with storage instead of a ladder. Steps are easier for younger climbers than a vertical ladder, and they add storage. The Ondine Teak Staircase is sold separately for families who want steps.
Loft beds for kids, teens and adults
A loft bed gives one person a raised bed and the floor below for something else. Darina, Kadie, Gabryelle and Patrisha come with a study table, and some versions add drawers. Kadie, Tannen (with two ladders) and Timmie leave the space open, so you can add your own desk from our study tables.
Our loft bed product pages list a width of 208 cm and depths of 103 cm (single), 119 cm (super single), 164 cm (queen) and 195 cm (king). Available sizes vary by design. The Reymond loft bed has a storage staircase and stands 180 cm high.
Loft beds for adults
A queen or king loft bed turns a small room into a bedroom and a study or dressing area. Tell us who will use it and how high your ceiling is, and we'll help you choose a frame height. For more layouts, see our loft bed ideas for small rooms.
Bunk bed and loft bed heights and sizes
| Frame height | Designs | Footprint W × D (cm) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 167 cm | Tate H167 | 206 × 99 (single), 206 × 115 (super single) | The lowest frame online, for lower ceilings |
| 180–190 cm | Reymond bunk and loft (H180), Joaquina queen/super single (H182), Jeanie, Jeferson, Josephyne and Shavon (H184), Joaquina super single/single (H190) | 207–242 × 102–192 | Includes the queen and king bottom bunks |
| 200 cm | Most bunk and loft designs, including Tommie, Tate H200, Lamario, Fredrick, Kayla, Madelon, Roseanne and Daisie | Bunks about 206–208 × 99–117; lofts 208 × 103 to 195; Daisie triple 261 × 214 | The standard height |
| 240 cm | Primo bunk, Timmie loft | 206 × 99; 208 × 103 | For high ceilings only |
Heights and footprints are from our product pages on 26 October 2026. Check each product's dimensions; custom heights are possible.
Our bunk and loft beds take Singapore single, super single, queen and king mattresses. The Timmie loft bed, for example, lists a single mattress of 91 × 190 cm. Browse mattresses in our mattress range, or see single and super single bed frames.
Need a different height or size?
The Tate already comes in two heights, 167 cm and 200 cm. The Jeanie page invites customers who want different bed sizes for the upper and lower decks to ask us to customise it. Any custom size is possible, and the extra cost depends on the additional materials and complexity. See custom bunk bed sizes and how to customise with us.
What ceiling height do you need for a bunk or loft bed in an HDB or condo?
Measure from the floor to the lowest point above the top bed: the ceiling, a false ceiling, a beam, a light or an aircon unit. Subtract the frame height, then subtract the mattress thickness. What's left is the headroom for whoever sleeps on top.
For example, if your lowest point is 260 cm, a 200 cm frame leaves 60 cm above the frame, before you subtract the mattress. The same room with the 167 cm Tate leaves 93 cm. If your ceiling is lower, look at the Tate H167, the Reymond at 180 cm, or the 182–184 cm designs. The 240 cm Primo and Timmie need a high ceiling.
Are loft beds allowed in HDB flats?
A freestanding bunk or loft bed is a piece of furniture. Built-in lofts and raised platforms are renovation works and follow different rules. HDB's renovation guidelines set conditions for raised platforms. URA says lofts designed as furniture decks don't need planning permission if they are 5 sqm or less, one per unit, with headroom no more than the space below (URA guidance). Check with HDB or your contractor before building anything in.
Are bunk beds and loft beds safe? (kids and adults)
- Guardrails. Look for guardrails all around the top bunk. The Jeanie, for example, has slatted surrounds on both decks. One parent wrote in a review of the Fredrick that other bunk beds they had seen had low guard rails, and the Fredrick's gave them peace of mind.
- Ladder or stairs. A storage staircase (Reymond, Roseanne, or the Ondine add-on) is easier to climb than a ladder, especially at night.
- Who sleeps on top. Ask us about the design you're considering and tell us who will use the top deck, including adults.
- Keep it tight. Check the joints and tighten the bolts from time to time, as with any bed frame.
Most of our bunk and loft bed product pages list a 6-month structural and framework warranty, which does not include damage from wear and tear.
Why solid teak for a bunk bed
Every bunk and loft bed on this page lists solid teak wood as its material. Teak's naturally high oil content makes it highly resistant to insects and rot, according to our wood care guide. A solid wood frame is heavy and steady: one customer described the Tate as "extremely solid and heavy".
Teak furniture comes in five shades: 5N (the lightest), 0N (Lite), 2N, 3N and 4N (almost black). The Darina loft bed also comes in white, and the Shavon bunk is shown painted in Verde Frutta.
Delivery, assembly and warranty
- Delivery: White Glove delivery, with the fee shown on each product page ($90 to $160 for bunk and loft beds on 26 October 2026). If your furniture can't go in the lift, a stair-carry fee of $20 per item per floor applies.
- Lead time: ready stock is typically delivered within 2 to 3 weeks. Made-to-order beds typically take 60 to 90 days, and up to 120 days depending on the time of year.
- Assembly: bed frames, including bunk and loft beds, are not delivered fully assembled.
- Old bed: HDB residents can call their town council for free removal. Condo and landed homeowners can ask us for two furniture disposal contacts.
- Warranty: most of our bunk and loft bed product pages list a 6-month structural and framework warranty, which does not include damage from wear and tear.
- Johor: we deliver to Johor too. WhatsApp us for the cross-border transport cost.

Bunk bed and loft bed FAQs
What's the difference between a bunk bed and a loft bed?
A bunk bed, or double decker bed, stacks two beds so two people can sleep in the floor space of one. A loft bed raises a single bed and leaves the floor underneath free for a desk, drawers or play space. A bunk bed with a pull-out bed adds a third sleeping space for sleepovers or guests.
What ceiling height do I need for a bunk bed or loft bed?
Measure from the floor to the lowest point above the top bed, such as a false ceiling, beam, light or aircon unit. Subtract the frame height and the mattress thickness, and what's left is the top sleeper's headroom. Wihardja's frames run from 167 cm (Tate H167) to 240 cm high, so lower frames suit rooms with less height.
Are loft beds allowed in HDB flats?
A freestanding loft bed or bunk bed is a piece of furniture, like any other bed frame. Built-in lofts and raised platforms are different: they are renovation works, and HDB and URA have their own rules for them. If you plan to build something in rather than buy a freestanding bed, check with HDB or your contractor first.
Can adults use a bunk bed or loft bed?
Yes, many adults do, especially in small rooms. Several Wihardja bunk beds have a queen or king bottom bunk, and our loft bed dimensions are listed for single, super single, queen and king mattresses, depending on the design. We don't publish weight limits on this page, so WhatsApp us on +65 6922 4588 with who will be sleeping on the top deck before you order.
Can a bunk bed be separated into two single beds?
Some can. The product page for the Fredrick Double Decker Bunk Bed says it can be separated into two single bed frames, which is useful when children grow up and want their own rooms. If you need this for another design, ask us before you order.
What comes with a Wihardja bunk bed?
Our bunk and loft bed product pages list a complimentary 3 mm plywood sheet to protect the mattress. Pull-out beds are made to fit a mattress 6 inches thick or less. Mattresses are sold separately. Like all our bed frames, bunk and loft beds are not delivered fully assembled.
Can Wihardja make a bunk bed in a custom size or height?
Yes. Any custom size is possible, and the extra cost depends on the additional materials and how complex the piece is. The Tate already comes in 167 cm and 200 cm heights, and the Jeanie page offers different bed sizes for the upper and lower decks. Made-to-order pieces typically take 60 to 90 days. See custom furniture.
How long does delivery take, and what warranty comes with it?
Ready-stock bunk and loft beds are typically delivered within 2 to 3 weeks. Made-to-order beds typically take 60 to 90 days, and up to 120 days depending on the time of year. Most of our bunk and loft bed product pages list a 6-month structural and framework warranty, which does not include damage from wear and tear. Check the product page for the model you choose.
